Insider Info

Education

dotThere is no set training program for cruise directors.

dotAny experience you can get working with people -- especially in positions like tour guide, camp counselor and activities director -- is an asset. If you can get some experience organizing group activities, such as games, dances or bingo, that will likely give you an edge.

dotA good way to make your resume stand out is to have some college or university training. Courses in hospitality management or recreation might be a good choice.

dotAnd it wouldn't hurt to become fluent in another language. Cruise lines are catering to more international passengers, so being able to speak other languages is a definite asset.
